Went straight on to MGS3 and played that for the first time. Being invested in the characters and lore probably helped a lot because I was much more forgiving regarding mechanics. ![]() Played MGS2 on my Xbox 1 X - this time it just clicked. After that I played Survive which was surprisingly good considering how maligned it was by fans and the media who clearly hasn’t played more than the first hour.Īnd then… I went back to the originals. Then I bought Phantom Pain and loved it to bits. Afterwards I watched a Youtube recap of Peace Walker and everything made more sense now. This time it hit the spot with perfect controls, mechanics, beautiful graphics and I found the plot intriguing. The hype and the trailers got me very interested so I caved and got Ground Zeroes. Then many years later Ground Zeroes came out. Too complicated controls, confusing story because I had only played MGS1. Played for maybe 1-2 hours before giving up. ![]() When MGS4 came out I got caught up in the hype and got it. It was just too different compared to everything else I was playing at the time think. I think over the course of ten years I played the first two hours from scratch three times and then gave up. ![]() Several years later I got MGS2 Subsistence for the Xbox and for some reason, the controls didn’t gel with me. It began with Metal Gear Solud 1 which I played on the Dreamcast back in the day. That being said, my own MGS journey has been very weird… So start with MGS1 and enjoy every subsequent game improving the mechanics. Going from something lime Phantom Pain where controls and mechanics are perfect to MGS1 will feel very weird. The controls in the early games take some getting used to and become refined over time. Not only for the story but also for the mechanics.
